ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduces the subject of the study and the academic theoretical framework used. It presents the dispossession and recognition of indigenous peoples’ land rights as well as the history of dispossession and the development of the subject under national and international law. It also presents the main topics this study covers, with an emphasis on the issue of recognition. In addition, it introduces the efforts toward recognition of indigenous peoples’ land rights in different places around the globe. This chapter also presents the Bedouin land issue in brief to explain how it is similar to the dispossession of other indigenous peoples’ land rights.
