ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the different key products of evolution and explains the concept of “evolved psychological mechanism.” It explores the different methods for testing evolutionary hypotheses and Identifies data sources for testing evolutionary hypotheses. The chapter discusses the procedures for identifying adaptive problems. Evolutionary psychologist Karl Grammer formed a team of researchers to study sexual signals as they occur in a seminatural context: singles bars. The chapter focuses on the logic and methods of the science of evolutionary psychology, a scientific synthesis of modern evolutionary biology and modern psychology. It presents the theoretical advances in evolutionary biology such as inclusive fitness theory, the theory of parental investment and sexual selection, and the development of more rigorous standards for evaluating the presence or absence of adaptation. The adaptation’s period of evolution refers to the time span during which it was constructed, piece by piece, until it came to characterize the universal design of the species.
