ABSTRACT

Work Group Supervision focuses on unpicking educators' observations and their understanding of them. Work Group Supervision enables Early Years educators to discuss children's development and learning, interests and needs and relationships in a safe, supportive environment. Work Group Supervision can provide them with an opportunity to express how they feel and talk to others about gunplay and other kinds of play, as a means to develop their understanding about how children learn. Finally, the findings also suggest that providing space for Early Years educators to reflect on observation, assessment and planning skills in small group supervision sessions may help to develop their understanding and practice and improve outcomes for children. Finally, it may be concluded that supervision matters to all of those that work with and care for infants and young children; because the process is designed to support, motivate and enhance professional practice for individuals and teams of Early Years educators.
