ABSTRACT

This chapter has a two-fold purpose. Firstly, it discusses the importance of supporting Early Years educators in their role of noticing significant development and learning. The second purpose is to outline the roles, rights and responsibilities of the Early Years educators and the facilitator. Work Group Supervision has an important role to play in supporting Early Years educators' well-being and observational practice, giving leaders and managers valuable insight into how Early Years educators interact with children. In practice, Work Group Supervision allows for leaders and managers to work more closely with them to discuss, advise and support them when poor or superficial observation practice is identified. Work Group Supervision provides a number of ways for Early Years educators, leaders and managers to investigate and study the complexity of observations, understanding and interpretations, and encourages Early Years educators to question one another's professional practice in a supportive way.
