ABSTRACT
This chapter retraces the links, from Freud to Bion, between the successive drive theories and the hypotheses concerning the constitution and functioning of thought. It develops the essential elements proposed by Bion for studying this field of psychoanalysis, without overlooking his fundamental contribution concerning the ambiguous and destructive role of group mentality in the transmission of thought processes in the interpersonal, group and societal space.
