ABSTRACT

The pressures of managing resources and keeping schools within the budgetary constraints required are discussed here. Drawing on the English approach to data benchmarking which allows leadership teams to compare their school’s expenditure with that of another organisation, a number of exemplary tables and activities are offered to allow the student of leadership to better understand the pressure leaders face when managing resource allocations effectively and efficiently. Case studies are provided to illustrate how school leaders are adjusting their budgets by taking a strategic and planned view of the school curriculum and organisation. Examples are drawn from a new model of school funding being tested in India. Issues connected to the global funding challenge are considered in the light of the sustainable development goals for universal education by 2030.
