[441/1] It seems to me that I should not only be injuring my sacred Order in not giving a full account of the glorious deaths and the hardships suffered on this occasion by those true sons of the faith in professing and propagating the Gospel, but should also be failing in my duty towards that most fortunate Father Fray Gregorio de los Angeles, seeing how we were companions when entering on this mission, as I narrated in the beginning of this book.
