ABSTRACT

The chapter focuses on five of our informants, located on the demand side of therapeutic practices, who have built their therapeutic networks around thin actants with the general purpose of seeking wellbeing and finding their “true self.” They belong to what could be characterized as the globalized, educated, affluent sectors of Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, and the five of them have been undergoing different forms of psychotherapy for years. Moreover, they share a reified notion of the self, which appears as something given, as an a priori that the subjects seek to find and come to terms with.
