ABSTRACT
Lester (1815–1890), an American descendant of the famous preacher Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758), was an abolitionist who reserved invective for monarchy and its sinecures in the poem featured here on the christening of one of Queen Victoria’s nine children. The poem is undated but highlights the wealth and luxuries each of Queen Victoria’s children would receive from tax-payers.34
