ABSTRACT

The body image curriculum has been designed as a structured, practical resource that aims to develop a healthy body image in primary school children. The lessons will run in the classroom, but when introducing this topic into school, it is worth considering ways to encourage positive body confidence across all aspects of school life. Most primary schools are familiar with circle time; it is a group listening system where the class meets in a circle to discuss and consider issues together. To be effective, circle time needs to be fun and to engage the class, and should be a regular, timetabled part of school life. Where possible, it is extremely helpful to have two adults in a class circle time session. This involves considering the children’s needs for safety and belonging, and ensuring that circle time remains a positive and supportive experience for everyone.
