ABSTRACT

Before the investigation into the motivational problems with taking sustainable action begins, this chapter discusses the cases to be used in the analysis. Five situations are described, of agents who are involved in morally relevant action situations, including sustainable actions. These are: someone who decides in favour of a semi-vegetarian diet, a doctor working for Médecins Sans Frontières, citizens who change their village’s power supply to renewable energy, a purchase manager in a dairy products company, and a credit restructuring officer in a bank. Together with the philosophical and psychological theories, the case studies form the material to be taken into account in performing the conceptual-phenomenological analysis in Part II of the book.
