ABSTRACT

Karl Hand was a longtime ally of James Mason. He spent time in various White Supremacist groups, including several years of working closely with Klan leader David Duke. In 1981, Hand replaced John Duffy as leader of the National Socialist Liberation Front, giving Hand an opportunity to run his own neo-Nazi organization. However, while promoting guerilla warfare in public statements, it quickly morphed into a more traditionally structured group with formal memberships and public demonstrations. Especially after Mason came into contact with Charles Manson and started promoting him in SIEGE, Hand and Mason fell out and in 1982 had an amicable split. Mason took SIEGE in the divorce and used it to flesh out his own political vision based on extreme violence. Hand continued to lead the NSLF until 1986, when he was jailed for attempted murder.
