ABSTRACT

To achieve what the client wants in life, Phase III focuses on setting goals based on the needs identified in Phase II. However, for many recovering individuals, it can be a challenge to uncover purpose and meaning in living. Many are more concerned about managing their illness and medications; others simply give up, not caring what hopes and meaning in life might bring to them. In this phase, the most important component is to help the client develop meaningful goals for living. Two useful strategies and tools are the Life Goal Formulation Chart and Pie Chart, and they will be illustrated through two case examples.
