ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the main functions of financial markets in the economy, especially the new relations between financial intermediaries and financial markets. The impact of the financial market development on economic growth is discussed from theoretical and empirical points of view. It is a good start to the next chapter, which focuses on the impact of the integration of international financial markets on economic growth.
