ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4, the functions of investment banking are categorized into four areas: capital raising, financial advisory, asset management, and securities business. The organization of these functions in the global investment banking industry is outlined. The structure of investment banking in Nigeria is discussed, along the lines of financial services holding companies, full-service investment banking firms and investment banking boutiques. There are three financial services holding companies that operate commercial banking, investment banking and other financial services in Nigeria. This platform provides them with strong franchises that promote synergy among the business line. The business strategy and performances of the investment banks under each category are analysed. The career path in investment banking is outlined.
