ABSTRACT

The poem is preserved only in Bodley MS. Douce 302, fol. 34, a collection of the poems of John Audelay, ‘prest to ϸe lord Strange’ of Knokin, Shropshire, copied at some date after 1426, perhaps at the blind poet’s dictation. Kings is however not by Audelay, for the poet’s dialect is from further to the north; see Dickins (1932).
