ABSTRACT

The beginnings of Previsualization have roots that go back to the silent era. In the beginning of cinema, the production of precise renderings for each “shot” of the film was under the domain of the production designer. This method was designed to bring coherence to the overall production. Directors have storyboarded for years, and in the world of commercial advertising it is all about the storyboard. The term “previsualization” and the act of previsualizing has now come into vogue because it encompasses a wide range of issues. Referring to visual preparation as only storyboards would be incomplete because the digital template of today is governed by the director. For those who want to dive deeper into the world of previsualization, this chapter describes the workflow from the full rehearsal to visualizing a solid start.
