ABSTRACT
A narrow and shallow definition of evangelism is that it means simply a proclamation of the gospel. True evangelism is the divine art of saving people from their sins by inducing them to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. The old evangelism, which brought results in the salvation of thousands, as revealed the New Testament, was God’s search for man through prayer, preaching and testimony. The kind of preaching which goes with true evangelism is seen in the sermon of Peter on the day of Pentecost. There has grown up a new evangelism which is a strange mixture of truth and error. Christianity is an evolution from the pagan faiths before it and is to be classed with other religions, superior in some respects, but having no special claim to divine origin. A practical worker in the philanthropic field finds it difficult to decide as to what kind of environment is best suited to making people good Christians.
