ABSTRACT

In the Old Testament the Spirit came upon eminent men and women for special service. In the Old Testament the Spirit came on special occasions, and did through Samson, David, Jephthah and others, wonderful deeds. In the New Testament he abides with His people. In the seventh chapter of John Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, as the Scripture saith, out of him shall flow rivers of living water. Bearing in mind the distinction between the Holy Spirit partially revealed in the Old Testament, and the Holy Spirit fully revealed in the New Testament. In the Old Testament the root of the word carries with it the idea of boiling heat. He builds His Church through inspired men and women preaching the inspired word. Peter, before he had received the Holy Spirit, might have quoted the prophecy from Joel, and it would have been like the sunshine passing through the ice, giving light but little heat.
