Issues with Current Discipline Practices in Early Childhood Programs and Schools

Chapter 9 describes existing discipline strategies used in most public schools in the US, such as suspension, expulsion, restraint, timeouts, and reprimand. The chapter describes legal and ethical issues with using such disciplinary procedures with children, and argues for positive forms of discipline with children, in which their agency, human rights, and dignity are respected.
