This chapter begins with an exploration of the history of marginalization and benign neglect racial minorities have faced in educational institutions, and the role of ideologies of white superiority that continue to influence educational institutions and the scholarship on how this informs children’s identities. In the current era, the resegregation of public schools, tracking, funding inequities, the achievement gap, bilingual education, and conflict over ethnic studies programs are all explored.
