ABSTRACT

Digital fabrication techniques are widely utilized in the academic realm, and are becoming increasingly accessible in professional design practice. This chapter will provide workflows that aid in the file preparation required for digital fabrication methods such as laser cutting and 3D printing. Contour and section cuts through digital models will be automated and organized for fabrication, providing options for cuts in the x, y, and z direction as applicable per output model application. 3D printing file setup will be facilitated through the creation of closed surfaces/meshes and the inclusion of a controllable, thickened base, ensuring success in printing. This chapter will employ algorithmic workflows to aid in the preparation and fabrication of objects derived from digital modeling.
