ABSTRACT

In the last twenty years an entirely new industry has emerged, the dyslexia industry, which some say relies on the uncertainties of the definition and identification of the condition. This chapter briefly investigates some of the claims of the manufactures and will illustrate by talking to those who have invested their hard-earned cash into these products their effectiveness. Eating a wholesome balanced diet is essential to human mental and physical development, but perhaps something as simple as ‘popping a pill’ a day could help to alleviate some of the difficulties experienced by those with dyslexia. The Dore programme was based on the idea that children with dyslexia have cerebellar developmental delay, and by invigorating one area of the brain it will improve other areas, but there is no available evidence that suggests that any improvement in one domain can lead to improvements in other domains.
