ABSTRACT

The research process and research design are important considerations in conducting research. An overview of a three phase process is described: (1) formulation, (2) execution, and (3) analytical. The phases describe a step-by-step process for conducting social sciences research, including problem definition, hypothesis testing, and analytical decision making. The scientific method and evidence-based research are relied upon throughout all phases. Scientific research is conducted based on a sound theoretical foundation, and the results are analyzed and interpreted using rigorous analytical procedures. The role of research proposals in developing a plan for executing research is described.
