ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows that counselor professional identity is something that develops over time, but starts as soon as counseling graduate students begin professional counselor training. Counselor professional identity is complex with many factors. Students also had opportunities to consider counseling competencies in unique and personal ways, such as connecting with theoretical orientations, pondering how their experiences influence ethical practice, using research and assessment for self-growth and awareness, and exploring cultural influences and biases on their work. The work students have completed took time and effort and the reflections may have catalyzed some thought and emotion to their beginning stages of counselor professional identity. Around the table is a chair for each group member. Label each chair with the name of the group member.
