ABSTRACT

Wellness is related to overall well-being and health in mind, sprit, and body. There are many factors to obtaining and maintaining wellness, and it is often referred to as a holistic and multi-faceted concept. Incorporating wellness into client conceptualizations, treatment planning, and counseling sessions is not only imperative in the work counselors do with clients, but a distinguishing aspect of counselor professional identity. Research has suggested that wellness is not only an important factor to promote with clients, but also a necessity for counselors. Self-care and the quest for wellness is an area in which counselors must walk the talk. Researchers have attempted to identify specific techniques and behaviors counselors use in order to create and maintain wellness. The versatility in wellness factors also provides evidence that wellness is holistic and should be infused in many factors of one’s life and being.
