ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents that the theory construction is a creative process. The play of theories has taken a dialectical form in which theory building is a reflexive process rather than a final product. The book analyzes that leisure may have a full range of levels of intensity and engagement. Disengagement in the sense of separation from role requirements and longer-term aims is a part of leisure. Relaxation from bodily, social, and mental disengagement is legitimate leisure, not second-rate. The book shows that some research has been lifted out of its customary habitat and placed in the analytical world of another kind of theory. It analyzes the relative openness of leisure and its less-consequential outcomes provides a context for playing with the forms and meanings of activity. The book presents that leisure also has a defining existential dimension. Leisure, from this perspective, is action.
