ABSTRACT

Our introductory chapter explains the purpose of the handbook, what we mean by authentic learning and why we feel that it is important. We explain how the handbook has come about and the methods that we’ve used in order to locate and elicit information about the case studies. We detail our criteria for inclusion and outline the structure of the book and how we intend it to be read and used. We finish by thanking the institutions and individuals who have supported our research and writing before setting the scene for the first chapter.
