ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter argues that the research has theoretical and policy implications for Asian cities under present or post-authoritarian nation-states and that the study advances discussions on the active uses of political memory for urban development. The chapter also discusses how my research results lead to further theoretical discussions. I suggest the following three concepts that have advanced the conceptual discussions in the fields of memory and cultural economy and the results of my fieldwork. The first one is the ‘memory-development next’ based on the comprehensive and capability-based definition of development. The second concept, ‘new cultural economy,’ focusses on the culturalisation of labour and its consequences in contemporary society. The third concept is a newly redefined term ‘the governance of cultural economy.’
