ABSTRACT

Organizations often formalize their “Why yous?” in the form of a value proposition. Entrepreneurs creates their value proposition on the heels of understanding their customers’ real problems, their competitors’ solutions, and all the reasons that customers might elect not to buy from they. Like their pithy mission statement, entrepreneurs' value proposition is short and to the point: a few sentences that explain why they provide their customers better solutions than all their competitors. Many health initiatives, like Last Mile Health’s efforts to provide health service to remote parts of Liberia, succeed because they rely on trusted local community members, even if their skills are quite limited, especially compared to better-trained personnel. Reliability, availability of parts, service or support, and ease of obtaining a product or service are some of the other ways in which a social enterprise can compete.
