ABSTRACT

This chapter describes some basic concepts and examines its challenging nature. Social entrepreneur will also hear a note of caution sounded: although they gain through fundraising, there is always something that they give up in return. For those who have never started a business, figuring out how to get money to launch, and then maintain, a social venture is daunting. A few preliminaries will set the stage and demonstrate that a social venture can use a combination of different forms of financing, some more relevant for early-stage ventures and some better suited to later-stage ventures. Funding from different sources and of different types often vary dramatically in the amount of money they provide.
