ABSTRACT

Chapter 1, “Introduction,” presents the book’s major question: How did Mexican workers in Mexico City engage with the global context during the Mexican Revolution from 1910-1929? It discusses the historiography on the topic in the fields of Mexican History and Global History, and especially its subdiscipline, Global Labor History, stating that Mexican workers and Mexico City haven’t received much attention in the research of the Revolution. It also comes to the conclusion that Modern Mexican history is not, by and large, a part of the growing field of Global History. It then describes the methodology used in the book and introduces the scheme of recognition, interpretation, and utilization. Finally, it lays out the structure of the book in five chapters and presents the different points of departure for the examination of the processes of global entanglement and interchange in which Mexican workers were involved.
