ABSTRACT

The preceding chapter explained that organizations require good performance from their employees. Just as an organization requires good performance from employees, employees also expect that the organization provides a good life or well-being for them. This chapter, thus, focuses on employee well-being. It describes what employee well-being means. It also outlines the various reasons that make employee well-being important. It then examines various forms of employee well-being. Specifically, it outlines five forms of employee well-being: physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual. It explains that employee well-being is distinct from an absence of work stress. It also outlines the distinction between well-being in life and well-being at work. Before describing employee well-being, two pre-chapter exercises are provided. Doing these exercises before reading the chapter will help in understanding employee well-being more concretely. At the end of the chapter, two exercises are provided that can help in applying well-being aspects to the actual workplace.
