ABSTRACT

This chapter points out the linkages between employee performance and employee well-being. It then explains how employee performance and employee well-being are the desired outcomes for an organization to seek. It highlights that for organizational health, both the outcomes of employee performance and employee well-being are required. It describes some of the challenges in simultaneously enhancing employee performance and employee well-being. In particular, it notes that there is a possibility that an organization may focus on only one of these two outcomes while ignoring or undermining the other. It then outlines that it is possible to simultaneously enhance both employee performance and well-being. It describes some of the distinctive features of the four action areas – transformational leadership, organizational justice, organizational support, and workplace spirituality – covered in this book for enhancing employee performance and well-being. It also explains how the four key action areas can be interlinked in the process of enhancing employee performance and well-being.
