A lawyer’s conduct should conform to the requirements of the law, both in professional service to clients and in the lawyer’s business and personal affairs. Giving Voice to Values introduced the idea that values choices are constantly present. The example set by a lawyer who embraces the values of generosity and gratitude in their professional and private life will enhance their life and set a powerful example for those affected by such gratitude and generosity. Self-interest or duties and responsibilities of ethical codes or social custom will not provide the same satisfaction or reliability as implementation of the genuine values of gratitude and generosity. Practicing these values will not only improve with habitual exercise and create personal and professional satisfaction but will also inspire others to act in the same way, first through the social heuristic of reciprocity but eventually through the satisfaction of living the aspiration of a values-oriented frame of action.
