ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the geography of tourism in Ireland including demand, supply and organisation. The chapter describes the major physical regions and climate of Ireland and outlines their importance for tourism. The chapter analyses the nature of the Irish economy and society, and their significance for tourism demand, particularly in relation to the Irish diaspora. The chapter analyses the major features of demand for domestic and international tourism in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and describes the major features of the tourism industry in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, including the government organisation of tourism. Finally, the chapter details the tourist regions, resorts, business centres and tourist attractions of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Despite the political and religious divisions, Ireland is well endowed with many types of tourist attractions.
