ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses mediance as the structural moment of human existence. What is generally understood by the natural environment is something that has been taken out of its concrete soil, human mediance, in order to make it into an object. Even though medial phenomena are here constantly put into question, it is as expressions of human existence in its subjectity, and not as what is called the natural environment. The essence of mediance as the expression of the subjectity of our existence would actually be the historicity—carnality of human milieus. The anthropization of the environment by technique, the humanization of the environment through symbols and the humanization of the body in the feedback loop. All other human societies, each in its own way, have always symbolically expressed the opposite conviction, even without knowing that it is through our mediance that our medial aspect survives our animal aspect.
