ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights why the author has written the book. The book emphasizes the fundamental need to address human motivations which affect business organizations and, by extension, the global economy as a whole. Inner motivations affect outcomes. The chapter highlights the need for business leaders to examine their motivations. Such motivations include integrity which builds trust, based on individuals’ character, at a time when trust in business has been at a low ebb. Integrity, in turn, is influenced by moral, ethical and spiritual dynamics in people’s lives. The chapter asserts that, far from the ends justifying the means, the means often determine the ends. The way we do things is as important as what we do. The need is for business leaders and other economic players to take time for self-reflection, an issue addressed in more detail in Chapter 15. The chapter concludes with a description of the author’s business family history and journey in life which has given him justification, and authority, to write the book. The author asserts that he hoped the case stories in the book will be a source of inspiration for young and seasoned entrepreneurs alike.
