ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that effective Multi-Sectoral Interaction (MSI) is an effective means to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental risk. As such, the forging of collaborations and strategic partnerships to maximize social, economic and environmental benefits is essential. One example of ‘translation’ is evident in the communication over the roles expected to be played by the public in achieving the Chinese dream in President Xi’s speech at the 19th National Congress. The chapter shows that the social diffusion and national adaptation of Sustainable Development Goals requires important innovation in both the language and the knowledge translation of sustainability principles and social values. This is proposed as the dual mechanism of sustainability translation. The chapter aims to develop several empirical models to gauge the influence from main sources of information on industrial users and the mass media and examines the MSI between these sources.
