ABSTRACT
This chapter investigates the development of the sustainable environmental and living discourse (SELD) in the country and builds empirical analytical models to explore the impact of the language translation and knowledge translation strata on the rise of SELD in China since early 2000s. The growth of SELD is propelled and driven by both innovation in the language translation of sustainability and the socially embedded and contextualized interpretation of sustainability principles by a range of information sources or also known as the social interpreting agents of sustainability. The chapter offers a corpus-based linguistic analysis of the translation and communication of SELD as a topic-specific genre of the general sustainability discourse in China between 2000 and 2018. It explores the process in which translated Sustainable Development Goals are diffused across the society and communicated to the general public within the twenty year time span between 2000 and 2018.
