ABSTRACT

In chapter seven, the focus is upon primary and secondary prevention for child to parent aggression and violence. The primary interventions outlined in this chapter include psychosocial intervention, parent management training, cognitive-behavioural therapy, bibliotherapy intervention, and multi systemic therapy. This chapter also includes suggestions on how to prevent aggressive behaviour among children and ways to rebuild relationships between the young person and parents after the incidents of parent-directed aggression by the child. Two longitudinal studies are presented in this chapter, which are the Nurse-Family Partnership (home visitation programme for women who are first-time mothers) and the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development.
