ABSTRACT

In addition to the Hadid controversy above, Hadid was subjected to another line of moral censure: that the Al-Wakrah Stadium resembles a vagina, a convenient hole to take in the ideological ejaculate of the system. Yet the apparent stupidity of this accusation conceals another sinister reading. For the vagina trope, as both “dirty” joke and moral charge, is more palatable than the truth: that we collectively, of the West, are responsible for turning workers’ deaths into global mass entertainment, for aestheticising violence under the iconic architecture industry, which has nothing to do with white identitarian gender politics but with bare life in the Middle East.
