ABSTRACT

The seventh chapter deals with Indo–African ties in the context of the Cold War and the post-Cold War world. After delineating the commonalities between India and Africa, the chapter sheds light on Indo–African rapport in the realm of security and economy. Like China, India too has institutionalised its ties with Africa through the India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS). Apart from the public sector, India’s transnational firms have also started investing substantially in Africa. The chapter examines how the economic reforms initiated in India in 1991 have had their impact on overall Indo–African relations while shedding light on the intrinsic asymmetry of such ties.
