ABSTRACT

This chapter tells the stories of young adults who have not succeeded in finding a satisfying compromise between their personal aspirations and normative expectations. In some cases parental expectations had held them back from realizing their personal goals while others felt restricted in their future planning by the structural constraints of their respecting home societies. Disenchanted and frustrated with their current situation, they presumed that escaping abroad was the only way to avoid societal pressures; whereas some of them felt reinvigorated by occasional successes, others encountered even more setbacks that only exacerbated their unfortunate situation and took a heavy toll on their immediate personal relationships.
