ABSTRACT

This penultimate chapter compiles and collates the cumulative data of the preceding investigation into an overarching sequential framework and corresponding spatial schematic, which jointly constitute the proposed conceptual development model of viking activity across the Frankish realm. Having produced this model, a subsequent process of validation and calibration is employed to ascertain its overall credibility and accuracy, whilst keeping it within any potential margin of error. In accordance, following its successful application to three geographically confined case studies – the lower Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt basin, the Seine basin, and the Loire basin – the model is provisionally approved, making it the first functional schema of its kind to deal with the (inter)regional reach and repercussions of overseas viking activity.
