ABSTRACT

This lattermost chapter, which comprises the overall concluding remarks of the monograph, deliberates the significance of the established conceptual development model in interpreting the characteristics and consequences of viking conduct around the Frankish realm. In considering the merits of this approach for further comparative investigation and critical source analysis, it envisages the formulation of far more detailed paradigms of interaction – applicable to viking activity both within and beyond the Frankish realm. The chapter closes by arguing for more extensive and in-depth considerations of the concept of early medieval hydrarchy, with a particular emphasis on Scandinavian shipborne activity.
