ABSTRACT

This chapter offers some advice geared to emerging professionals about how to prepare to ensure the interview experience is productive and positive. When preparing for an interview, the main factors that differentiate emerging professionals are their age and experience. Virtual interviews are also common during times of crisis. Emerging professionals new to interviewing should keep in mind that every question relates back to work. Interviews are a special opportunity to connect with emerging professionals. The interviewer will want to be sure students have the required skills, experience, and education for the position. What happens in an interview situation is almost all routine and predictable. With a few exceptions, preparing for a phone or videoconference interview is the same as preparing for an in-person interview. Videoconference interviews can be nerve-wracking because they incorporate the additional element of technology. The time students invest learning about the interviewers will help they gain an understanding of their beliefs and concerns about the field.
