ABSTRACT

Gaining awareness about a framework to situate information learned from women who were able to dive deep into their unconscious and reveal deeply-repressed feelings aligns with the revolutionary research undertaken by Dr. Felitti and Dr. Anda—The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study. As part of their journey, many women who engaged in the research study came to realize pearls of self-discovery and personal liberation. The repressed feelings were given air to breathe and they no longer had to deny their personal wounds. Countering the narrative of blame as well as identity of someone living in existence of wounded-ness and poor health requires the attention of all health professionals. Therefore, ACEs curriculum must be infused throughout students’ academic learning. By using the universal paradigm of implementing trauma-informed practice when engaging others, health professionals will be applying an intervention useful to everyone.
