ABSTRACT
Two of the works in this section could also have been classified as chronicles and assigned to Part Two; they appear here because they focus specifically on Charlemagne and contain numerous analogues of chansons de geste. Some of the compilations in this section have been treated by critics as collections of separate adaptations. Studies of a single element of such a compilation, such as Karl und Elegast of Karl Meinet, will be discussed elsewhere.
