ABSTRACT

Rang-Roop is a Kolkata-based theatre group producing original work and adaptations of Bengali theatre classics from more than three decades now. Rang-Roop’s theatre can be characterized as the quintessential Bengali group theatre. In this case study, I discuss the material realities of production and reception in Kolkata that culminate in Rang-Roop’s productions. I document and demonstrate what can be described as the quintessential processes underlying Bengali group theatre.
